Chalet Debussy, Morzine, France

Named by The Telegraph as one of the 10 most beautiful chalets (winter 2018-19) Chalet Debussy in Morzine is quite simply one of the finest chalets in the region. This 200-year-old farmhouse has been meticulously renovated by its current owners to an exceptionally high standard and uses the finest local materials.

There are four main guest bedrooms but two of them are connected to extra children's rooms (one with a bunk room sleeping three and the other with a mezzanine sleeping two). There is also a third bedroom with a double sofa bed. If all extra beds are used the chalet can sleep up to 15 guests.

What makes Chalet Debussy a truly unique experience, however, is the main living space. This is located on the top floor of the property and offers a large, open-plan space. Step through two large French windows on to a south-facing balcony and enjoy unrivalled views of the local mountains and watch breath-taking sunsets as the sun falls behind the Point de Nyon.

Preparing and serving delicious food is not seen as a task but as a pleasure. Breakfasts for example are wholesome as well as tasty and include croissants, pain au chocolat, fresh baguettes, museli, fruit, cereal, yoghurts as well as tea/coffee and fruit juice or smoothies. Hot options are also provided, such as smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.

Dinner is a highlight of your stay at Chalet Debussy. Pre-dinner canapes such as garlic prawns are served with a cocktail and your taster menu is as imaginative as it is delicious. Tartiflette tatin with reblochon ice-cream (don't knock till you have tried it) and prosciutto shard anyone? Pomegranate glazed duck breast with creamy polenta and spinach; followed by blackberry, apple and spiced pear hazelnut pavlova with sweet chestnut cream - you get the idea.

The chalet is located in the charming village of Montriond which is a 10-minute drive from the Ardent ski lift-from which you can explore the entire Portes du Soleil ski region. The centre of Morzine resort is also a 10-minute drive away.
